What this site is and what it is not

This site explains AI in general terms. This page sets out how to read that, what interests I have, and what data the site collects.

On this page

This is general information, not advice

The content here is written to help you understand things. It is not legal, financial, technical or commercial advice, and it is no substitute for assessing your own situation.

Do not make a purchasing, investment or architecture decision on the strength of what you read here alone. Every real case has particulars (data, contracts, regulation and systems already in place) that a general explanation cannot know about.

Content goes out of date, some of it quickly

In this field, prices, model capabilities and best practice change within months. The fundamentals last better than the individual numbers: how a neural network works, where the cost comes from, and where the value collects.

Every article shows its publication date. If you are reading this a good while later, check the current figures against the original sources.

Views about the future are views

Some of the content is about direction: where costs are heading, which layer captures value, which techniques spread. These are reasoned views, not forecasts and not promises.

I write out the reasoning so you can judge it yourself. Where something is uncertain, the text says so rather than hiding it behind a confident sentence.

Independence and interests

Tekoälli is a personal project. It does not represent any company's position, and no employer, client or partner directs its content.

I work in the AI field, so I have interests. They are set out openly on the about page. I do not write about the confidential affairs of my employers or clients, and the examples on this site are general situations, not accounts of particular customer projects.

If partners or other commercial content ever appear on this site, they will be clearly marked as such.

Errors and corrections

The content is written carefully, but errors happen. I do my best to make sure what is stated here is accurate, but I give no warranty that it is free of errors and accept no liability for loss arising from use of the information on this site.

I correct errors that are found. If you spot one, please say so: accuracy is this site's most important feature.

Privacy and cookies

This site has no user accounts, forms, newsletter or comments. You do not have to give any information to read it.

Server logs. The site runs on Google's Firebase App Hosting. The service records technical log data such as the IP address, browser type and the page requested. This is used to keep the site running and secure (legitimate interest); I do not use it to track visitors.

Visitor measurement. Google Analytics is loaded only if you permit it. It sets an identifier in your browser and collects information about which pages are read, for how long and from what kind of device. It gives me no names and no contact details. Without your permission it is not loaded at all.

Retention. In visitor measurement, event data is kept for 2 months and user-level data for 14 months, after which Google deletes it automatically. The user-level period restarts if the same browser returns, so for a regular reader the identifier can last longer than that. These periods apply to data tied to an individual browser. Aggregated figures in standard reports, such as visitors per month, are kept longer, but no individual visitor can be identified from them. Server logs are kept for as long as Google keeps them in its service, and I take no copies of my own. The site collects nothing that I store myself.

Recipients. Data is processed on my behalf by Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC, as the site's platform (Firebase App Hosting) and as visitor measurement (Google Analytics). There are no other recipients. Data is not sold and not disclosed for marketing.

Transfers outside the EU. Google also processes data outside the EU. Those transfers are covered by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses and by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

Your rights. You can change your measurement choice at any time below, and withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it. You also have the right to request access to your data, its rectification or erasure, to restrict processing, to object to processing based on legitimate interest, and to data portability. Get in touch at harri@aitoware.com. The controller is Harri Salomaa as a private individual.

Right to complain. If you believe your data is being processed unlawfully, you can complain to a supervisory authority: either the one in your own EU country of residence or, since the controller is in Finland, the Finnish Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman.
